Beatrice knows how to deal with students and she will guide you in Italian, speaking slowly with an easy vocabulary. The itinerary allows you to get an idea of the city, learn to orient yourself visiting the heart of the city. The tour includes the following steps:
PIAZZA DUOMO (THE CATHEDRAL SQUARE): We begin our tour in Piazza Duomo, the religious center of the city. The square consists of the complex of Santa Maria del Fiore: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with its Giotto bell tower and the Baptistery of San Giovanni Battista with an octagonal shape. The Dome of the Cathedral (called “Cupolone” by Florentines) is the amazing work of the Renaissance Architect Filippo Brunelleschi. Important reference in the Florentine skyline, the Dome is certainly the symbol of the city.
PIAZZA DELLA REPUBBLICA (Republic Square): This square is located in the exact center of the city. Right in this place the ancient Romans began the foundation of Florence. Later, it became the bustling home of the city market. Over the centuries around in the square stood the Jewish ghetto that remained there for about three centuries. The present aspect of the square is due to the nineteenth-century reorganization of the city, aimed at making the city worth of its role of temporary capital of Italy. The square retains sumptuous historic cafes that from their foundation have always hosted heated debates of intellectuals and artists.
- PONTE VECCHIO: one of the most famous and romantic bridges in the world. The Old Bridge is the oldest bridge in Florence (1333). In its short length it is punctuated only by historical goldsmiths shops, presenting endless varieties of gold, pearls and coral.
